Lin Hsing-Yueh, a seventy-year-old painter, is very proud of himself never winning any art related award in Taiwan. He always told young artists that it should be more important to have your paintings hung in the living room of Taiwanese people rather than hung in the international exhibition halls. He is also quite proud of having his paintings hung in Taiwan's presidential reception room for foreign dignitaries.

Born in Taiwan Taichung in 1939, Lin Hsing-Yueh had a difficult childhood as his parents were dead in his early age. In 1965, after graduating from Department of Fine Arts of National Taiwan Normal University, he began his surreal way of painting that projected the desolation, quietness, distance of his early life. In 1975, Lin Hsing-Yueh went to Spain studying painting for nearly three years. In that period of time, he experienced the blooming of Spain's democratization which inspiring him to reflecting in his paintings again the history of his native land, Taiwan.

The majestic mountains, the trees growing to the horizon, the vast coast, the tumbling rivers, sweet fruits and so on, Lin Hsing-Yueh showed his love of Taiwan via his painting. With the emotional brushes, he confidently revealed the spectacular images of Taiwan’s landscape. In his paintings, if he let the mountains speak, the voice shall be leisurely spreading out; when he made the earth to calm down, each flower would keep quiet. Like poems, his paintings could be read and whispered; moreover, they could be approached or seen in the distance. As he grows older, his body gradually can not support him to paint, but his ambition to creation now is stronger than ever before. One after another, Lin Hsing-Yueh keeps taking on the challenges to the fill blank canvas. For him, art is a life long career.

In this era of globalization, the definition of civilization has been re-interpretated again and again by the capitalists. Dedicated to root the local culture, the prophet is trying to guide us where to go.
